What a year we’ve had!

It’s been a busy year here at Start Thurrock, and the festive season is a great time to take a breath and reflect on the year gone by.

It has been our pleasure to bring creative activities to our brilliant borough but it is you who bring it to life.

This year our highlights have included our first ever Green Light programme helping you try new things, being part of Thurrock’s first Pride event and, we were proud to host the return of Colourscape and our first ever event at Lakeside – Music of the Spheres.

Also, along with our partners, we helped to put on a summer full of creativity with seven Big Lunches and a Picnic in the Park.

You can now watch a behind-the-scenes video and relive the The Community Big Lunch here.

It has also been great to see so many of you co-creating with a host of brilliant artists in 2024!

You’ve helped design and paint murals at the Purfleet Pantry and Leatherland Lodge Care Home with the brilliant K&B Designs, created street art with graffiti king Scotty Brave at the Pyramid Resource Centre and Aveley Hub and became part of a community cast with Autin Dance at the Chadwell St Mary Big Lunch.

We can’t forget Ockendon residents being part of a year-long process developing the inspiring performance of The Mystery of the Missing Market with Teatro Vivo.

Plus, it has been amazing to help you develop your own ideas through our Creative Community Support programme – with many fantastic projects developed in 2024 that we were proud to facilitate.

If you want to get involved with Start Thurrock next year, there will be plenty of opportunities.

Start planning for Green Light 2025!

We are so excited to be bringing Green Light back to Thurrock in 2025.

Save the dates for between February 15 and March 2 for a host of creative activities where you can give something new a go and hopefully find a new passion.

There will be something for all ages, including everything from family theatre shows, film making and visual arts workshops to dance and movement classes, extended reality technology and creative writing opportunities.

On top of that, we have some brilliant local artists showcasing their talents.

Keep your eyes peeled for the full programme coming very early next year.

More details about what Green Light is all about can be found here.

See you next year!

As the year draws to a close, we want to thank everyone that has contributed to, supported or attended a Start Thurrock event during 2024.

We have big plans for 2025, and are already excited for how you can be part of it!

Everyone at Start Thurrock wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
